OPEIU Local 174 is taking measures to ensure the safety of our members. As such we have contacted all signatory studio employers and we have cancelled our April General Membership meeting due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Due to the guidelines of the CDC OPEIU Local 174 is restricting visits to the union office on a temporary basis for the next two weeks. Business Representatives will continue to be available Monday through Friday via email and telephone so you can continue report any workplace complaints or concerns via email or telephone.

If you are sick, please do not come to the office to pay your dues. You can pay your dues online at OPEIU174.org or by mail. All new members applications can also be submitted by mail.

Welcome to OPEIU Local 174

The Office and Professional Employees International Union was chartered in 1945 by the American Federation of Labor. At the time of its founding, the membership of the Union numbered 22,000.  The Union now counts 145,000 members and is one of the larger unions in the AFL-CIO. As it moves into its 57th year of chartered existence, the OPEIU has local unions functioning throughout the fifty states, as well as Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia

The Union represents and bargains for both private and public sector professional and semiprofessional workers laboring in most of the major industries in the United States. The OPEIU is also affiliated with a number of state and national professional organizations.

OPEIU members work in industries varied as motion picture industry, banking, insurance, universities, shipping, hospitals and nursing homes, utilities, transportation, manufacturing, paper companies, hotels and many more. They are in positions as varied as computer programmers and operators, engineers, secretaries, nurses, accountants, attorneys, transit supervisors, security guards, bank tellers, administrative aides, quality control personnel, doctors, models, police and others.

Sony Contract Ratification Notice

Dear Members,

Thank for your patience as we navigated the process of negotiations during the current climate of Industry Negotiations. Local 174 has now come to a tentative agreement with your employer Sony Pictures. As such, a contract ratification meeting is scheduled for Friday, April 1, 2022, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. via zoom.

Notice About Reimbursement for At-Home COVID-19 Tests

Dear Participant: The federal government recently released new rules requiring health plans, including the Motion Picture Industry Health Plan (MPIHP), to cover over-the-counter, at-home COVID-19 tests at no cost for covered participants and their eligible dependents, beginning January 15, 2022.

Sutter Health Providers and Facilities are In-Network

We are pleased to report that beginning March 1, 2022, Sutter Health providers and facilities,
which are primarily found in the northern California region, will one once again be in-network
for participants of the Motion Picture Industry Health Plan. Please note that in-network copayments
and coinsurance apply when seeing providers and facilities that are with Sutter Health.

As a reminder, your members should use the “MPI” prefix when searching for in-network providers and facilities through the Anthem Blue Cross website (www.anthem.com/ca). Your members will be notified of this change in the winter edition of FYI from MPI as well as by email.
